Abstract

Antioxidants play an important role in maintaining human health by neutralizing harmful free radicals, which are involved in various diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, and aging-related disorders. Natural sources of antioxidants, especially from plants, have received significant attention because of their potential therapeutic benefits and fewer side effects compared to synthetic antioxidants. This study aims to test the antioxidant activity of Cymodocea rotundata seagrass extract using three solvents, namely methanol, ethyl acetate, and n -hexane, the method used is testing using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method to determine the antioxidant capacity of the resulting extract. Antioxidant testing using UV-Vis spectrophotometry at a wavelength of 515.5 nm. Screening results Phytochemistry shows the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, as well as steroids and triterpenoids, with different distributions depending on the type of solvent. As a positive control, vitamin C was used with an IC50 value of 8.715 ppm. The test results showed that Cymodocea rotundata seagrass extract showed very strong antioxidant activity with IC50 values of 16.91 ppm (methanol), 22.32 ppm (ethyl acetate), and 20.51 ppm (n-hexane), respectively. This research provide further understanding regarding the antioxidant potential of the Cymodocea rotundata seagrass and the influence of the type of solvent on the extracted antioxidant activity. The antioxidant compounds contained in the Cymodocea rotundata seagrass extract can be utilized in the development of natural ingredient-based pharmaceutical and cosmetic products. In conclusion, Cymodocea rotundata seagrass extract has significant very strong antioxidant activity
